Allergy Treatment

Dr. Logan follows a holistic, step-by-step approach to treat allergies.  The aim is not to address symptoms only, but to resolve the underlying issues which create the symptoms.

Barrier Functions

To determine what is driving an allergic reaction, Dr. Alexandria assesses barrier functions.  Barrier functions are what separate you from your environment.  If the mucus membranes that line your nose, mouth, sinuses and respiratory passages dry out, they cannot trap particulates, pollens, etc. and you become sensitized, or allergic, to what you breathe.  If you cannot digest protein adequately, you will become sensitized to what you eat.  If your skin is too dry or has any rash, cut, abrasion, or other lesion you become sensitized to what you touch.

Barrier functions must be evaluated first and treated before further testing and desensitizing the system are considered. Then, associated organs such as the adrenals, thyroid, and thymus glands, which are often stressed by allergies, must be evaluated and supported if necessary.

Food and Chemical Sensitivity Panels

Another way Dr. Logan will test for allergens is through Food Sensitivity Panels to test for common allergens that trigger antibody (allergic) reactions.  This test is a lab-based immune stimulation test in which blood drawn from a patient is "challenged" with various substances including foods, additives, colorings, chemicals, medicinal herbs, functional foods, molds and pharmaceutical compounds.  How the blood responds helps to identify substances that may trigger potentially harmful immune system reactions that can result in allergic symptoms.
